I would say the most controversial ones I’ve seen have been popular female rappers, mainly Cardi B and Lizzo are what first come to mind. I understand that some women want to send a message proclaiming that they’re indepdendent and aren’t heavily oppressed as they were in previous decades, but why is there always a provocative undertone? I mean, most Rap/Hip-Hop music sexualizes females in some way. It’s never showing or talking about something truly empowering like a female doctor who helps sick children or a woman who decided to dedicate her life to helping others in a selfless way. As someone who’s almost an adult, those are the things that would benefit young women. Instead, the first thing we see online is twerking… and then we complain about hookup culture. What you put out is the image people perceive you. This isn’t really meant to be a long ramble, I just wish we had more positive female role models in the media that didn’t have to sexualize themselves in the name of “feminism”.
